Raising Reslience

How might we equip caring adults in rural Appalachia to share knowledge and resources with youth so they have the tools and support they need to make healthy decisions, access care, thrive today, and build healthier families and communities tomorrow?

Pharrin Clarida (ETSU MPH student), Cristina Barroso (ETSU Professor, Behavioral and Community Health), Shana Byerley (ETSU doctoral clinical psych student), and Cindi Huss (RISE director are leading this project with input from community members and organizational partners. Pharrin proposed this project to ETSU Elevates and received funding to kick-start Raising Reslience.

BodyWise

BodyWise explores how sexual health education can better serve youth/young adults (beneficiaries) with visible & invisible disabilities, chronic illness, neurodivergence, & other health differences. We know this population, as well as their partners and caregivers, need enhanced sexual health education, While sexual health education exists, it is rarely designed with disability, adaptation, or changing bodies in mind.

Cindi Huss, Rebecca Pearson, and Sarah White will use published research as well as input from folx with disabilities to determine innovative ways to provide needed information, affirmation, and connection.
